The gamescom 2024 promises to be a pivotal event in the gaming industry, with the Italian Pavilion taking center stage. The collaboration between Agenzia ICE and IIDEA has brought together 21 Italian companies, including Vigamus Group, for this prestigious gaming fair in Europe. Let’s delve into the details of this vibrant showcase.
The Epicenter of Gaming Innovation
As the world’s largest fair for the latest trends and innovations in video games, the gamescom boasts a massive 230,000 square meters of exhibition space. With over 1400 exhibitors from 64 countries slated for the 2024 edition, this event sets the stage for groundbreaking developments in the gaming realm. Italy has been a proud participant in this esteemed fair since 2015, showcasing its prowess in the gaming industry.
Flourishing Italian Gaming Market
In 2023, the Italian video game market recorded a staggering turnover of 2.3 billion euros. This marked a 5% growth from 2022 and a remarkable 28% surge from 2019, showcasing significant growth opportunities within the industry. The increasing purchase of new video games, especially for consoles and PC, reflects a positive trend with a 6% rise from 2022, notably in the realm of downloading new titles, which saw a 19% year-on-year increase. However, in-game purchases, including DLC downloads and console service subscriptions, experienced a 42% decline compared to 2022. Despite this, software remains the dominant segment, constituting 71% of the sector’s turnover, equivalent to 1.6 billion euros.
Focused on Global Reach
The gaming sector in Italy is ardently focused on exports. While Europe remains the primary target market for the Italian gaming industry, recent data shows a shift in export destinations. The percentage of exports to Europe decreased from 60% in 2021 to 43% in 2022, with a corresponding rise in exports to North America from 25% in 2021 to 40% in 2022. On a global scale, the gaming market is poised for revenue growth this year, with estimated global revenues in 2022 reaching nearly 314 billion euros, of which 71.5%, amounting to 224.3 billion euros, is attributed to mobile games.
